Well, I just came across your blog from FB and the Old Schoolhouse Magazine. Actually from your APP's advice blog. What an amazing work God has done in your life! It brought tears to my eyes. How awesome is our Father who keeps tugging at us until we turn to Him. I too wanted to do things my own way having been raised in the church but never having that relationship. Then, when I was 31 I just got so tired of rejecting him and living my yucky, blatently, sinful life. I wish I had more time this morning to explore your blog (and your husband's, which sounds very interesting) but I too homeschool and have a busy day ahead of me. Blessings to you!

The answer to my problems isn't a list of 'isms', it's Yeshua :). He continues to change, mold, teach, and love me.

Without Him there is no morality, simply a list of rules and regulations in order to be 'moral'. Without Him there is no ethics, no morality, no...anything!

Without a basis for truth, goodness, and light, that can be found only in His being there is nothing but what man decides is right, which is ultimately a false morality.

I'm horrified to read that the answer to your problems came in the form of sexism, patriarchy, and subjugation to men.

It is possible to be a deeply moral person, who does not drink or smoke or take drugs or engage in promiscuous sex WITHOUT being sucked into superstitious misogynistic drivel.

What a beautiful Testamony. I am also being lead down a similar path. With Submission to my husband and the headcoverings I have been a Chirstian for about 15 years now and we have 3 blessings Sadly we have lost 3 due to miscarriage and I'm in greive over weather or not we can have more. I want more but weather that is in the cards I have yet to know. Blessing to you and your family. We also homeschool using a Charlote Mason type approach and ahve been doing so for 4 years. I was not rasied in a Chirstian home and I have struggled with some similar issues over the years.

Jennifer,

I happened to stumble on your blog by accident, was amazed at how closely our stories run parallel, and yet had very different outcomes.

Although I was never baptized LDS, I certainly spent many years attending the Church and really contemplating to take the "plunge". I have attended the UU Church and practiced Witchcraft. We diverse in our stories in that you are now a Born Again and I am a Polytheist.

I commend you on finding the Truth that brings you obvious joy and contentment in life after having a rough beginning. I find it very interesting that on both sides of the divide-- Christian and Pagan-- many "convert" during a difficult time (depression, promiscuity, drugs, alcohol) that seems to help them straighten out their lives. I am so very happy for you.

Moreover, I must say, it is a shame that people mock another's religion (in your experience, people mocking Christianity). It's something that I have said many times: "You don't get respect until you give it".

Thanks for dropping by Carole! I hope it doesn't seem that I'm connecting the mormon church directly to the occult :). Though it's fairly well known that Joseph Smith was involved with various occult practices/symbology.

In any case, I do have deeply rooted concerns with the false doctrine of the mormon church as it relates to the personage of God, Jesus, and the nature of salvation.

I'm in agreement however with your suggestion to always consider whether or not an act encourages to rely upon our own wisdom and strength, or upon His - we can all use that reminder!

Thanks for coming by :).

Jennifer Thank you for sharing this. I too have had some similar experiences in my life though not identical to yours.I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and when I was young my family were involved in things that i did not realize at the time were occult but it was in no way related to our church. We just lacked the discernment necessary to realize the occult nature of some things which we became interested in with regards to alternative healing. It was a long and slow process to realize that the answers to the questions we were having could be found within the scriptures and within the inspired counsel of our church leaders. I have realized that it is definitely an individual responsibility placed on all of us to seek out Christ in our lives and submit to His will daily. Such an ongoing process of submission can not be accomplished in a day or a lifetime but requires an eternity and you have so courageously shared with everyone your determination to do that. May God bless you in all your efforts to follow Him. I have found strength and clarity of mind and purpose in my life as I ask myself when faced with decisions "Does this lead me to Christ and increase my faith in Him or does it tempt me to follow my own wisdom or rely on some other source of power or authority?" This simple question has helped me out many times to see when some of my beliefs and actions were not in line with God's will and helped me to more clearly discern the motives behind my actions and those of others. Thanks for your honesty and inspiring blog.
