Homesteading Carnival #61 – Bringing Home the Bull
Welcome to the 61st Homesteading Carnival – Bringing Home the Bull! This might seem like an odd title, but we were busy yesterday driving, selecting, loading, unloading etc. our new bull. His name is Samson – purebred black Dexter goodness! Our heifer’s were so excited to see him get unloaded and get to meet him.
Dexter’s are tiny, and mild mannered, so they are perfect for homesteads with women and children (like ours!). All of our cattle are horned (the cows we purchased full grown were dehorned). This new addition only has tiny button horns, you can’t really see them, but hopefully he’ll throw horned calves!
I don’t have a post in this week’s carnival, but here is a picture of our new guy! He has curly hair – a good sign of fertility in a bull. He’s a 2 year old, handsome isn’t he?
