Book Giveaway: Family UNplanning by Craig Houghton - 5 winners!
CONTEST CLOSED! Thank you to everyone who participated. You can see the list of winners here!
Craig Houghton, author of Family UNplanning desires to see the Lord glorified in every aspect of family life.
My desire has always been to challenge Christians to be Bereans in this area and ”search the Scriptures daily” to see if our lives conform to His Word. If this small book is an encouragement to some, I trust our LORD is glorified.
To further the study and exploration of the scriptures related to family planning, family size, contraception
and other issues relating to Christian family life, Craig is generously providing 5 autographed copies of his book Family UNplanning to 5 blessed blog readers!
If the Lord has been speaking to your heart on this issue, or you’re simply interested in learning more about Quiverfull families and their convictions, then this is an excellent title for you! You can read my recent review of Family UNplanning here. I particularly recommend this title to any couples who are courting and discussing these issues prior to marriage.
CONTEST DETAILS:
To enter, visit Craig’s website http://familyunplanning.com and leave a comment on this post, telling me something you have learned from visiting his site, or why this book intrigues you.
For additional entries:
1. Subscribe to this blog for updates - see the left hand sidebar. Leave an additional comment letting me know you’ve subscribed (or if you already subscribe).
2. Write a post on your blog promoting and linking to this contest. Leave an additional comment with a link to your post.
3. Add the Quiverfull Family button (see the code box in the right hand sidebar under BUTTON UP!) to your blog’s sidebar. Leave an additional comment with a link to your post.
4. Digg, Stumble or otherwise share this post on a social networking site. Leave an additional comment indicating how you shared this post.
Each additional step taken counts for 1 additional entry. A total of 5 entries are available if you complete all of these steps.
The contest will close at 12 a.m. MST on Sunday, October 05th, 2008. Five winners will be randomly drawn on Monday, October 06th, 2008 and notified by email. Please fill your email address in the comment form when you are completing your comment so that I can contact you. Each winner must respond with a mailing address within 72 hours of my email, or a new winner will be chosen. This contest is open to everyone worldwide!
I look forward to seeing God bless families with this prize! I’m absolutely delighted to play some small role in spreading the vision of God’s plan for families. Thank you so much Craig for writing your book, and your desire to share it with others.

I am always interested in perspective in this area. I will be honest and say that after four miscarriages, I am finding it more difficult to remain steadfast in my conviction to be open to the Lord’s plan in this area. I am just being transparent here; I KNOW God’s plan is good, but I am struggling to understand it today. Maybe not the best day for me to comment ….

“We proclaim that our LORD is sovereign in family planning and that He has declared in His Word that children are a blessing and a reward.” Thats the first line about the book and I couldn’t agree more and I think children are the biggest blessing possible. This book sounds absolutely wonderful and I’d love the chance to win it, thank you.

Hello, thank you for running this contest! I am the happy mother of three boys and first heard of “family planning by God” when I was pregnant with my first son eight years ago. I’ll write more on my blog, but suffice it to say that I’m laying this in God’s hands. If I win the contest, I’ll know where He stands.
Thank you again!

Hi. I am very interested in this book. When my husband and I were married, we new nothing about this issue, except that my mother had told me that the IUD causes abortions. I refused the mini pill after the birth of my first daughter because I read in the hospital literature that it caused abortions, but accepted depo provera after a midwife (incorrectly) told me that it was safe… I am now pregnant with my fourth child, due in October. I don’t know what we will do after him contraceptive wise. My husband and I have agreed to avoid all abortatives, but that still leaves the diaphragm and natural family planning methods… I have read a lot about being quiverfull and am interested, but do not know what to do, and my husband is not convinced. I would like to look at this issue further.
If I don’t reply to an email quickly please don’t write me off; I might be flown to another city for the birth of this child and it might happen around the time the competition is drawn (baby might have micrognathia, I’m getting a diagnosis soon).
I have posted a link on my blog to this contest for a second entry. Thanks. http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/ttt/593308/

I live in Sweden, and the quiverful movement has not influenced Christians here yet, from what I’ve seen so far. I first heard about it two of three years ago but only because I have many friends in the US and read many Christian blogs. The general opinion amongst Christians in Sweden is that contraception is fine as long as the method used is non-abortive. We have five children which makes us a big family here. Since I first heard allowing God to determine family size I’ve been very interested, so I would love to read the book. Thank you for allowing us in other parts of the world to enter the contest! I had not heard about the author before so everything on his website was news to me!

We would love to receive a free copy of Craig Houghton’s book. God opened our eyes and hearts to trust him with our family size almost seven years ago. We had three children at the time (one of those was still in the womb). We are bleseed to now have seven children (one of those is in the womb). We are so grateful to the Lord for showing us His better way. We would love to read some more information on the topic to be able to better share with others, since the topic comes up frequently!
From Craig’s website, we appreciated reading Rick Boyer’s endorsement of the book. We have met him and his wife at a homeschooling convention and have read many of their books and have enjoyed them all. We appreciate knowing that the Boyer’s recommend the book. We look forward to reading Nancy Campbell’s forward (no pun intended!). She has also been a great blessing in our lives and we value her Godly wisdom, as well.
Thank you for entering us into the opportunity to win a copy of Family Unplanning.

I have been a QF wife & mother for many years, and am blessed with 9 children (ages 1-17). Unfortunately, I have been separated from my husband for over a year now, due to abuse & infidelity. I’ve struggled with the whole QF thing due to those issues, knowing that God sees each child as a gift, yet feeling foolish in bringing so many children into this mess. I am praying my husband has a complete brokenness & heart change, & know that God will be doing a huge work in our lives.
I’d love to win a copy of this book for encouragement!

I just visited Craig Houghton’s site and I would love to read this book! I am mom to four blessings and we are really wanting to trust God in regards to our family size. It is difficult to do unless you keep your focus on Him and ignore all that society has to say on this issue. I am especially interested in reading how, historically, the church got to this point of supporting limited family size.

Hi, I subscribed to your RSS feed. I also visited the site and am looking forward to this book. I have been feeling a tugging on my heart on this issue and am praying for guidence and also that God would speak to my husband about this. The parts of the book that intrigue me are about the 1900 years of the church and what exactly scares us about having as many children as God blesses us with. I think our fear is selfish and also concerned with this world, not what God desires for us. Thanks!

We have heard of a contest where you are giving away 5 copies of your book Family Unplanning. I would like my very own copy.
What I have learned is that when you give everything over to God, his blessings pour out over abundantly. We are not worthy of any of it, but are very grateful for the grace.
This past week, a topic on one of my groups was what are you doing to save money?
Here was my answer, this is my entry for your contest.
Please know that what I’m saying here, please, please, know that I am
not saying I’m any better than anyone else, because I’m not, but those
of you who have been with me on my journey these last 5 years know it’s
been a long journey where I’ve learned so much.
5 years ago, my marriage was very stressed. I was pregnant with Amelia, my third daughter.
My mother, a widow, declared she was broke and needed to move in with us
temporarily. September 2003
The day she pulled the U-haul in here, she declared she’d never move
again and just stay here with us. ( My mother suffers from depression
and will not seek any help or treatment, my childhood was very painful
when it came to Mom. She slept through every major holiday and sometimes
for days. I’m an only child. My dad and I were close, but he died of a
heart attack in 1999.) I do not want my children living with what I
lived with. My mother is very difficult to live with.
2 weeks after my mother moved in, my sister in law called to say CPS was
at her door and I needed to come get her 4 mo old infant and keep her
until they could straighten the mess out. October 2003
By Thanksgiving, I was having early labor. I asked my mother-in-law to
take my niece.
My delivery of Amelia in Feb was hard, my mother was there and wouldn’t
let anyone else in, I finally sent her OUT and delivered the baby on my
own with my doctor.
7 weeks later, I developed a staff infection from an ingrown hair on my
leg that I had tried to remove with a unsterilized needle (dumb!) I
nearly died and nearly lost a leg.
After all that, we went into severe debt to enclose the garage for my
mom to live in, she was suppose to help us pay for it, but didn’t. We
had a big fight 6 months later and she moved out.
DH and I had been through so much and he was not quiverfull, I was, but
he kept wanting a vas, and after all of this, I finally gave in on our
14th anniversary. He had it done, but I was miserable, something was
horribly wrong. We were missing something.
We consider adoption, but it wasn’t right for us.
After another year of conflict and strife, he agreed to a reversal on
Dec 11, 2005, (another long but beautiful story), we finally surrendered
everything in our lives to God in Feb 2006. I conceived and gave birth
to Michael 11-30-2006. DH got several raises, we began paying off debt.
In July 2007, I joined a coupon group PCCE challenge on yahoo, and we
used Angel Food Ministries, couponing, Wal-Mart comp ads and HYPERLINK
“http://www.hillbillyhousewife.com”www.hillbillyhousewife.com to help
save on food/living costs. We also sold my car and went to being a one
car family.
In May of this year, we found a place we wanted to build our dream home.
We found it the beginning of May. We put our house on the market the end
of May. We sold it 6 days later. We thought finding a 3 bedroom
apartment to live in would be hard, but God opened that door immediately
and we have exactly what we need while our new house is being built.
We are now completely debt free except for housing construction and we
are quiverfull, I still coupon and comp, but I also know that My God
shall supply all my needs and I am content and know he is taking care of
us. What a joy it is in my life to have finally laid all things at my
Savior’s feet and let Him love us and give to us according to His Grace
and Mercy. Life is so much simpler and peaceful now. My marriage is
better than its ever been. My children are happy. We have a good home
life, a good church and church family, I’m on top of the world right now
and I give God all the glory.
We are very careful with all our purchases living within our means that
God provides. The coupon group really helps, as well as my menu planning
and comping grocery ads,
I’m at a point now where I’m enjoying sharing and communicating with
others. I’m looking forward to the new Duggar series coming on October
1. I can remember wishing I was like them, happy, having what they
needed, etc.
You know what, God answered that prayer in a special way that was just
right for me.
Share and talk whenever you can.

I have loaned our book by the Hess’s out to several families, but would like this to pass around too. Yes, I am a book worm and collect books as a hobby. Lol!
