I'm a fan of online courses, to an extent. However, in my experience, a good 'live' piano or instrumental teacher can cover a heck of a lot of ground in just a couple of lessons, provided your child is ready for that commitment.

Online DVDs and lessons are great, but they are better used as supplements for 'live' piano or instrumental lessons, in my opinion.

Hi Monica, We're in Alberta, and funding varies depending upon how you are registered, and which non-resident school board you are registered through. Funding ranges from $700 - $1300/year in most cases.

This post might be helpfull as well to explain the system here. Not all provinces offer funding, so we are blessed here in Canada.

We have a high speed connection, but we suffer from bandwidth limitations. If we use over 200 MB we are FTAP'd - slowed down to less than dial up speed, sometimes not even able to check email.

Sadly, this can occur from watching 1 six minute video if we've also been surfing the web that day, so no videos for us! The slow suffering is too much :). If we had a moderate connection speed but no limits on downloads, I'm sure we'd have no problem with viewing videos online.

I know you are in Canada, but can you please share what kind of homeschooling funding you get? Also, how slow actually is your connection?
Thanks!
