That being said I think it would be great for grade 1 - the cores are pretty flexible and handle a spread of at least 3 years. However, if you're not really sure what to do, Sonlight has a great mommy helpline that is staffed by devoted, experienced SL moms. Why not give them a ring? I'm sure they'd be thrilled to help! I am starting to homeschool my oldest next year. He will be six and by school standards a first grader. I'm trying to decide on a core for him. I keep hearing mixed things. Some say even the kindergarten covers mature topics... which makes me wonder if he could handle core 1... but he will definitely be at a typical 1st grader level- which sonlight seems to test him at.
