Blood Banking

Infant cord blood banking to collect umbilical cord blood stem cell is on the cutting edge of medical advances (to my mind), and it’s something I haven’t paid much attention to in the past.  Apparently over 12,000 umbilical cord blood stem cell transplants occurred worldwide to treat over 75 different diseases.    Many Christians approach stem cell research with a certain amount of distrust due to it’s association with aborted babies, however – banking your own newborns cord blood is a completely ethical decision.  We routinely donate our baby’s cord blood through the Canadian blood services here – my midwife arranges everything.

My indifference concerning the end use of umbilical cord stem cells changed recently when I met a family online whose son has a as of yet undiagnosed blood disorder.  In preparation for his future treatment they banked their newborns cord-blood in the hope that it could effect healing in the big brother. Cord blood stem cells are a 100% match for the donor, and siblings have a 1/4 chance of a match.  I’m praying that God will work this all out for them.

If this is a measure that your family has been considering for your children’s future, cryo-cell is offer a $725 discount on Cryo-Cell’s U-Cord service using the promotional code HOT.
