I’m starting to feel like rechargeable batteries and single socks all go to that same neither-nether land. You can buy batteries, and buy batteries, and buy batteries again, but where do they all go? We seem to be down to only 4 AA rechargeables. My bedtime story reading light takes that many, the Wii balance board takes that many, so we’ve been passing them back and forth. From light to Wii to Wii to light.
Now I can’t say FOR SURE where they are all going, BUT I suspect that they are hanging out with the single socks somewhere. Kicking back, taking it easy now that they’ve escaped their mundane roles in life.

I know I’m likely a bit late to the party on this one, but I’ve really been noticing lately how youtube has changed marketing. How else could a German girl come out of complete obscurity (though apparently backed by money somewhere along the line), and become sort of a ‘fan hit’? This seems to be happening more and more often, but I think the entire “Anna Blue” phenomenon and her So sad song (which you can now get as a ringtone even) is a good example of this.
A sophisticated CG music video goes up online, along with a pretty snazzy German website, facebook, twitter, myspace – etc. etc. and it becomes very popular. Because I can’t read German fluently I’m not really sure who is financing the whole thing, but that level of CG graphics isn’t exactly within reach of most young women (and “Anna” has a very young voice.)
None of us are ‘emo’ nor are we into songs about being sad and alone (had enough of that in high school), but I think this is an interesting case study in modern marketing at work.

Kaelynn is now officially riding a two-wheeler bike, WITHOUT training wheels! Woohoo! Larry modified a bike that we had here – he took off the pedals, and lowered the seat as much as he could so that Kaelynn could use it as a ‘push bike’.
We’d seen a television clip that said in some European countries (I think it was the Netherlands?) they didn’t ever really use training wheels. They just used these bikes that are specially made without wheels so children can push along on them with their feet. Kaelynn had been riding well with training wheels for some time, but the transition to a two wheeler without trainers was difficult because she hadn’t developed a good sense of how to balance a bike.
After two or three days of practice with her own modified push bike she was able to ride her two wheeler, and only had one scraped knee to show for it – and she learned on a gravel road, so that’s saying something! She’s planning a celebratory party
. We are very happy for her, and she is completely in love with bike riding.

Well, after posting about Larry needing a pocket watch, he finally has a high-quality pocket watch that is lasting him – so good so far. The cheap one I bought him didn’t hold out :O! In any case, he IS carrying it, and I think he’s finding it helpful with his schedule. Sometimes I think that I should get a watch – not a pocket watch – I don’t always have pockets on me.
Because I’ve been feeling very ‘girly’ I’m definitely liking pink watches! I was looking at some dolce and gabbana watches online, and while some of them are a bit ‘over the top bling’ for me – really thick bands, and LOTS of crystals – but there are some that are more subdued.
I really like the one they have with the pink dial and the smooth white leather band with contrasting pink stitching (if only it was silver.) It has just a few crystals around the outside edge of the dial, around 3 rows deep on the top and bottom and around 1 row deep on the sides. It only has crystal markings for the hours instead of numbers, but I suppose you could get used to it (I’m a numbers girl myself.) I definitely need to make sure wrist bands are adjustable (I had links taken out of my last watch which I then quickly outgrew as I got pregnant with my first baby – yes it’s been awhile.)
Yes, I think it’s just a matter of time before a pink watch will be mine!
